About The Office

History of The Practice

Dr. Kayes started the practice in Haymarket in January, 1982. He had grown up in northern Virginia and wanted to return to the area to practice. The Haymarket/Gainesville area was attractive because it seemed friendlier and less hectic than areas inside the beltway, and because its location allowed him to pursue his outdoor interests. For eleven years, the practice was truly a family affair, as Dr. Kayes practiced in a home office with his wife helping at the front desk.

In 1993, the growing practice moved to downtown Haymarket into a new modern office building. For the past ten years, the doctors and staff have enjoyed the combination of a well designed, spacious facility and state of the art clinical equipment. One of the highlights of the office is our computerized record system, which even includes computerized digital x-rays. With this incredible program, recordkeeping is clear and accessible; the doctors can even access patient records and x-rays from home. For more information about our equipment, click on technology in dentistry under Dental Departments.

Of course, the best equipment and design is only secondary to the quality of the staff, and we can assure you that we have the most professional staff around anywhere. Everyone at the office really cares about people, and works to treat patients the way they would want to be treated themselves. We are proud that we don't need a sign in sheet because Karen at the front desk knows everybody, and are tickled by the compliment recently given by our equipment repairman, who said he loves hanging around our office because it is a fun place where everybody gets along and has a good time.

Emergency Care

We know that emergencies can happen after hours. We always leave an emergency number on the office tape whenever the office is closed. If you need information on how to handle a toothache or dental emergency until you can see us, click on emergency care/toothaches under Dental Departments.

Cosmetic Services

Your smile is such an important part of who you are; we love being able to help you make it the best it can be. Our office offers teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, and aesthetic crown, bridge, and implant work. If you are interested in cosmetic or reconstructive services, we invite you to click on our Smile Gallery section, a portfolio of some before and after cases completed at this office.

Financial Information

Dental Insurance and Finance

We realize that patients need to understand the financial aspects of treatment, and need options for affording dental care. Our staff does take the time to discuss treatment costs, and we provide a written treatment estimate of work to be performed. We accept Master Card, Visa, and Discover. We can also arrange twelve month interest free financing for major work.

Of course the way to make dental care most affordable is through dental insurance, and we do have a dental plan available through Anthem Blue Cross. This insurance provides basic care for individuals, couples, or families, with no waiting period for checkups. For an application stop by our office or call Catherine Mock at (800)330-0537.

HMO's, PPO's

Our office policy is to provide you with top quality dental care, taking the time to educate you about procedures, using the most advanced dental equipment for your comfort, and offering the most aesthetic options for your smile. Because managed care plans severely limit your choices for optimal dental care, we do not participate in most plans. We do participate in Anthem Blue Shield of Virginia and D.C. and Delta Dental at this time.

He just completed his second marathon.

Mala Britto, DDS, MS

She came to the United States to receive her training in pediatric dentistry. She received her specialist?s certification from Louisiana State University, then earned a master?s degree in oral biology. She was an adjunct professor in pediatric dentistry at Louisiana State and also worked as a staff pediatric dentist at Children?s Hospital in New Orleans. She recently moved to this area and lives in McLean with her husband and children ages 7,9, and 11.

Malini Abrol, DMD

Dr. Abrol just joined our practice. She grew up in northern Virginia, graduating from Langley High school in Mclean. She attended UVA and received a degree in chemistry, then received her dental degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She completed a general practice residency at Columbia University in New York, then completed additional research at Nova Southeastern. While Dr. Abrol has enjoyed her experiences in different parts of the country, she says she feels most at home in Virginia and returned to start her career in this area. Right now most of her spare time is spent setting up her new home. She is very energetic and patient, and is good at explaining dental procedures to patients.

Maureen Kayes - Office Manager

Maureen received her Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech with a major in nutrition and a Master of Science degree in public health nutrition from the University of Tennessee. She combines managing the office with being mother to four children. She also completed a marathon with Dr. Kayes.

Paula Lester - dental hygienist

Paula comes from West Virginia, and graduated first in her dental hygiene class from West Virginia University. She has worked as a hygienist for twenty years and has been with us since 1997. Paula is married and has a daughter, Natalie, age ten. She enjoys church activities and is a Girl Scout leader, but admits that as a working mother she hasn't had too much time for any hobbies. Paula is the perfectionist on our staff, and many patients have commented about her conscientiousness about their care.

Sima Kalantarian, RDH

Sima joined our office two years ago. Like many people in this area, she was commuting to a job out of the area and came to us looking to work locally so she could find more time for her family. She has been a delightful addition and has developed numerous devoted patients since she came here. We continually receive comments about how calm and gentle she is. Sima graduated from the Northern Virginia Community College hygiene program, and previously attended medical school in her native Iran. She lives in Gainesville with her husband and two children and states that hygiene has been a wonderful way to continue work as a health care professional while caring for her young children.

Karen Collier - front desk administrator

Karen grew up in Nokesville and has been with us for eleven years. She previously worked in secretarial positions at Atlantic Research and Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital. Karen is married and has two sons, ages fourteen and seventeen, and spends her free time bowling and helping with her sons sports activities. Karen is our most outgoing staff member, who somehow seems to know personally almost everyone who comes in the office. We figure she must have several hundred really close friends.

Cara Satter - dental assistant

Cara is originally from California. She has lived in many places across the country following her father's ministry. Cara was a music major in college and plays the flute. She also enjoys singing in her church choir. Cara has worked in dentistry for five years and has proven herself indispensible, taking on many tasks and reorganizing the office to improve efficiency.

Karen Bobst - financial coordinator

Karen has been a long time resident of Haymarket and was a patient at our office for several years before coming to work here. Karen lives in New Baltimore with her husband and two sons, Jason, age twenty-one, and Matthew, age seventeen. Karen enjoys gardening and is known at the office for her organizational abilities. We have lost count of the number of different tasks she can handle simultaneously.

Amy Grimes - dental assistant

Amy is from Fauquier County where she grew up in Marshall and graduated from Fauquier High School. She comes to us with five years experience and a wonderful attitude. She has a five year old son and enjoys spending time with him and all his activities. She loves out door sports including horseshoes, volleyball and softball, and also enjoys playing pool.
